Clingmans Dome in The Great Smoky Mountain National Park has approximately 72 inches of snow from December through March. Although the streets are closed park visitors can still travel the area by skis and snowshoes. With the roads closed to the Dome the only other options are to hike the Clingmans Dome Road, Forney Ridge Trail or Appalachian Trail from Newfound Gap. The hike is 7 miles one-way and requires preparation.
